The
Recovery Academy Parent Program is a unique and vital
part of the program.
Adolescent substance use/abuse and
emotional problems affect the entire family. While
adolescents are in treatment, parents participate in
multi-family, parent support groups, and family therapy.
In addition to the more traditional
family involvement, the program includes an intensive
half-day curriculum designed to provide education and
training on topics such as 12-steps, parenting
adolescents in today’s society, trust, communication,
limit setting, and preparing for the adolescent’s return
home. Participation in the Parent Program is required.
A significant benefit to the Parent
Program is the ability to meet other parents. Parents
often feel alone or personally responsible for their
adolescent’s substance abuse and emotional problems.
Participation in the Parent Program allows parents to
better understand substance abuse and psychiatric issues
and allows them to develop a support system by getting
to know other parents with similar problems.
