Maria Murray, B.S., M.S.,
C.T.R.S., Director of Recreation Therapy
Maria received a B.S. in Recreation
from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters Degree in
Recreation Administration from the University of
Memphis. She is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation
Specialist.
Prior to coming to work at
Lakeside, Maria worked as a Counselor, Recreation
Director and Camp Director in Illinois, Indiana and New
York. She has been a College Instructor at the
University of Memphis teaching courses in Therapeutic
Recreation, Outdoor Recreation and swimming.
Maria has served as the President
of the Memphis Area Therapeutic Recreation Association,
Western Tennessee Therapeutic Recreation representative
to the State Parks, a Recreation Association and was on
the Tennessee State committee to establish standards for
Therapeutic Recreation Professionals.
 She has over 30 years of experience
working with children and adolescents and over 25 years
at Lakeside. As the Director of the Recreation Therapy
program, Maria oversees R.T. staff and program for the
entire hospital. Expressive Therapies such as art, music
and aquatic therapies are a few of the activities she
enjoys leading.
